OK! So you are looking for the best used car deal that money can buy.. I have taken some time to check out some used car spots in Houston and give you some of the insight I have found. I am going to include some reviews of the dealerships that are in the area, and what dealership finally got my business! The hardest part about buying a car is knowing when you are really getting a good deal or when you're getting swindled. This is why it is important to know the truth when it comes to buying a car! The best weapon you can posess is knowledge.

A Few Tips On Car Buying

Car Dealer Secret #1

Used car dealerships purchase some thier cars from the local Auto Auction. They usually pay anywhere from 3 to 8 thousand dollars less than what they charge for it on the lot.

Car Dealer Secret #2

Used Car dealerships will offer a trade in for your car and not give you kelly blue book value for your car. Go to Kbb.com and check out what your car is worth before you trade it in.

Car Dealer Secret #3

When it comes to buying a used car, dealers sometimes try to keep the car history from you. To make sure you're not getting a potential clunker, you can ask to check the carfax but it is also smart to check Auto Check.

Car Dealer Secret #4

Knowing how long a car has been on the car lot gives you the upper hand. If a car has been on the lot for more than 120 days, you can offer a lower price as the car is not turning the dealership a profit.

Car Dealer Secret #5

If a bank wont approve you to finance your car, some dealershiops offer In-House financing. This is when the dealership takes a risk on you and lets you make payments directly to them. They have the power to approve you for a better APR.

Car Dealer Secret #6

New cars can be a poor purchasing decision as they lose 2,000 in value as soon as you drive it off the lot. Just because it's new doesn't mean that it wont break down on you.

Used Cars in Houston, Your Insider Source

Ok Its Jason here!! So I needed to get a new car, cause my old chevy was tired of the beatings! It wouldn't start so I was out of a car for a couple of weeks. All my friends were tired of giving me rides everywhere and the bus system was... lets just say I was afraid for my life. I didn't have great credit and the thought of trying to get a car and someone having to check my credit made me queasy. I knew for sure they'd have someone escort me out once they found out my score was in the negative numbers(is that possible?). Well I muscled up some courage to start my search. I went to a couple car dealers, just to inquire about a car and I felt like a hot girl on a club night out. Everyone was trying to get in my "Car Pants", It was kind of annoying. They really didn't seem to understand that I was a human being in need of a good deal. I went to a couple of places and this is my experience:

NexCar
1. CUSTOMER SERVICE 5 Star Rating for Customer Service
2. CAR QUALITY 4 Star Rating for Car Quality
3. PRICE 5 Stars for Price
4. INVENTORY SELECTION 3 Stars for Inventory Selection
5. OVERALL EXPERIENCE 4 Stars for Overall Experience

I save the best for first...(I work in odd ways) Nexcar stood above the rest in just about every category on my used cars in houston search.  I've never shopped around at any of the car dealership in houston where customer service was claimed to be the best and it actually was.  They answered the phone with a warm gretting, then set me up with an appointment to come check out some of the cars I was looking into.  I arrived on time and was actually seen right when I got there. If I have to wait I find myself getting agitated. No agitation here. I was given enough room to breathe as I browsed around the clean lot.  Once I test drove a couple of cars they told me to take my time and I had no pressure to make any quick decisions. I really liked the experience these guys had to offer and actually bought a smart car. Chick magnet right!! They worked with my credit(it wasn't as horrible as I thought). Overall Nexcar wins. You can check out some of the other dealers below and check out my experience.

6909 Southwest Freeway, Houston, TX 77074 : www.Carmax.com

I felt pretty comfortable here because it doesn't feel like a regular dealership.  They seem to know a lot about cars and seem to be very willing to help. There were a couple of sales people that kept coming up to me to try to help me.. it was helpful and annoying. the yin and yang i guess..  I was given some good attention but you can definitely tell it's a chain dealership.  Kind of like an electronic store version of a dealership.  The employees do seem to be trained differently in their approach with customers. I stayed at this place for about an hour and really didn't see any deals I liked. Moving on....

5. OVERALL EXPERIENCE 4 Stars for Overall Experience

10250 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77043-5208 : www.Goodsonhonda.com

Goodson has a cool vibe but I couldn't browse around without being bombarded with too many questions and they seem very eager to get me to test drive any car I looked at.  They did have a lot of confidence in the cars they carried. As far as being in the top 5 of the best car dealerships in Houston, Goodson made it because of the quality of their cars. bravo.

I like Fred Haas, they're pretty straight forward.  Easy to haggle with and offer a lot of incentives with the cars they sell.    Most car dealerships in Houston are small compared to this place. This place is Huge! I almost got lost looking for the restrooms. I could have never made it out of there..They did treat me differently once they found out my credit wasn't that great..PSHH WHATEVA.  I also checked the "Car Fax" on one of their cars and looked at it with "Auto Check" and found some overlooked issues.

Selection is awesome but too impersonal.  I felt alone, so very alone, get what you want without any help. This would be cool if I knew anything about cars but I didn't. I needed a helpful salesman! I could have been running around in a speedo with a boombox and I don't think anyone would have come to help me.  They do have a good system in place and know how to keep a flow going, but I think they fail to understand the importance of customer service.  They do sell a lot of cars, but to me I felt like just a number.
